I can’t stand to watch Presidential speeches to Congress because of all the pomp and applause. Might as well watch the academy awards. However, I did read the President’s speech in its entirety, and it made me sad. Sad that our leaders are so blind. Sad that our nation is following like a bunch of sheep… baaaaa. Sad that I’ll be raising my children in such difficult times. I say difficult because I sincerely believe that the economic distress will lead to civil unrest. Our faith in God and reliance on Him will help us through.
You may ask why I am so pessimistic. It’s because my eyes have been opened. We have been living in a booming economic period created by government endorsed expansion of credit. In general, too much money was misallocated to short-term growth that could not be sustained in the long term. It’s like building a wonderful house but discovering half way through that you don’t have enough bricks to finish. What do you have to show for your trouble? No house. Just a pile of useless bricks!
And now the government is insisting that the only way to combat this depression is to throw money at it. The irony is that this approach will only make things worse. Much worse. The same tactic was tried by
What has interested me most lately is Obama's budget proposal. He brought the word "Audacity" into common parlance a few years ago. Apparently he intends to keep it there with his budget proposal. It's unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago you were stomping that some 60 million dollars in the "stimulus" package was earmarked for health care and you were saying that equalled socalized medicine. I disagreed with you. The proposed budget calls for some 600something Billion!! dollars for expansion of medicare/medicaid. This year alone. Now _that's_ socialized medicine. Good grief!
Obama is surrounded by people who believe (and he beleives himself, from what I can tell) that the european economic system (i.e. socialism) is better than capitalism. That's the platform he ran on. That's what we're getting. I personally disagree with that, and though I voted for him for other reasons, I can't believe things are moving that direction so smoothly. I never thought congress would stand for it, even being full of Democrats.
Many people who disagreed with President Bush would stomp and grouse that they would move to France if he were elected a second time. It looks like they're getting what they asked for. Without having to pack up and move. Can we make that kind of transition without civil unrest? I dunno. I guess I probably should become one of the gun-toting right wing nut jobs I love to scoff at.
Was it Rousseau who said there should be a revolution every other generation? We're probably overdue.
